Compassionate in-home hospice and end-of-life care
We will be there for you and your pet in any way that we can and provide honest and open lines of communication so that you and your pet feel respected and supported.
Geriatric Care
Our desire is to make sure that just because your sweet pet is getting “older” it does not mean they are not living their life to it’s fullest. As part of a geriatric consultation Dr. Lisa will review any past medical records from your regular veterinarian, perform an exam on your pet in the comfort of their home, and make recommendations based on your pets needs.
Often, simple environmental changes and adjustments to diet and medication, along with exercise – can make your pets older years their best. If appropriate – acupuncture and herbal medicine or supplements can also help your aging pet.
Common conditions we can help with in senior pets:
Palliative Care
The goal of palliative care is to improve the quality of life by decreasing stress and alleviating pain and discomfort. This is done in the home and can be used alongside any traditional therapies your pet is receiving such as chemotherapy, surgery or medication. Palliative treatments can include pain management (through western and eastern herbs, acupuncture), digestive support, relief from anxiety and stress and help with keeping your pet hydrated.
Hospice Care
Hospice care focuses on comfort in situations where a “cure” may not be possible – or when a treatment that was aimed at curing the condition is not working, is not possible, or is having a negative impact on your pet’s quality of life. Hospice care includes palliative care and is usually begun when a pet is nearing the end of their life.
End-of-Life Care
The decisions and emotions around saying goodbye to a beloved pet – a member of your family – are so incredibly difficult and painful. In-home euthanasia allows you to say goodbye to your pet where they feel safe and comfortable – surrounded by their loved ones. Dr. Lisa will be there for you, when that time comes, to guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have as well as honor any requests or needs you may have during this most emotional and sacred time. We also have a comfort room at Horizon Pet Cremation for those wishing for a private and quiet space for the end-of-life transition.
